It was just one of those days where i was just itching to fish and just randomly hitting one of the fresh water holes to try my luck in discovering a new spot.

Result was this little bugger. There were alot of other hits as well but not resulting in the landing of something substantial. However i must say that the miss hits were quite hard and from that momentary hookup, the fish had quite a pull on it. Is this place going to be productive.....? Bit too early to tell. Will have to go back again to see if the saying " If theres small fish , theres big fish" is true.

Ever Wanted a no worries phone.....

Seletar Country Club Fishing Competition 6 June 09

Got a call from Gerard at about 1730 hrs asking me to join him at Seletar Country Club's Fishing Competition.

I agreed straight away and met him there at about 1830 hrs.

Lots of people fishing in this small Golf Course fishing pond so i decided to move to the corner where there were some rocks as there was nobody there.

It was a good choice. Within the first 5 casts, a Toman hit my Popper Frog and within the next 5 casts, landed this nice Toman

This was a very last minute trip when i stumbled upon super deals from Jetstar.

Believe it or not it cost is less than the fishing for one day. $194 for a return trip with baggage allowance of 20 KG.

The Plan......

21 May
- Depart Sgp on Jet Star at 2200 hrs

22 May
- Arrive Darwin 0440 hrs.
- Pick up at Holiday Inn Esplanade at 0530 hrs for Baramundi fishing at Corroboree Billabong with DNA fishing Charters (Rocky)

23 May
- Fishing in darwin Harbour with Chris ( Lure Maker introduced and arranged by a great guy George that runs Fishing & Outdoors.

24 May
- Self Drive Fishing Charter in Darwin Harbour. Skipper....Myself...!!

The Action.......

Day 1 - 22 May - Corroboree Billabong.

We dint think much of till we saw this fella relaxing on the bank.

DNA Fishing Charters boat that we would spend the rest of the day chasing Barramundi.

Only thing about this part of the trip is that Jeevan was the only lucky one to land a Baramundi. The rest of un had no Barramundi luck. We had alot of fun with Tarpon's which we dont have any photos of cos they were almost imoissible to land. Closest we got was to bring them by theside of the boat.

The following 2 days were spent fishing Darwin Harbour.

The first day, we were brought around by Chris who was introduced by George of Fishing and Outdoor World. George was recommended by Shoy from Hong Guan Fishing tackle.

On the last day, we chartered a self drive boat from Hooked Up Boat Hire. Peter the guy who runs this business was most helpfull and accommodating to all my queries and requests. He even pointed out the good fishing spots that were firing for that week.

I have promised him a recommendation to friends or Kakis heading up there so feel free to call him on his mobile which is found on his website. He would bemore than happy to answer your questions.

We were lucky that day as Phil one of the staff at Fishing and Outdoor World was going out fishing that day as well and offered to take us around.

Notice the Electric motors on the boat... A very esential part of fishing that we in Singapore lack.

Main Purpose of the Electric motor was sneaking up on the Baramundi hinding amongst the mangroves.

Alot of the fishing for Baramundi was sneaking up on them and spotting them in the shallow flats as the tides receeded.

A good pair of Spotters Sunglassess was also necessary as Stephan found out...who was not able to spot alot of the fishes on his polarized Oakley's. Somehow the Spotters did a better job which Phil and his friend had on.

Stefan and myself got a pair each on the last day. I tested them out recently at Tanah Merah and i mus say they did give a greater vision in depth compared to the other sunglassess iv had.

Here are some of the places we were fishing in and some of our catches.

Notice how shallow we had to go. Literally into the Mangroves with merely 30 - 50 com of water. Hence why the electric motor came in handy.

The Milk fish below was landed on a 8lb Paladine line on very light tackle. 6'6" Daiwa Crossbeat and a 2500 Daiwa Freams.....bait....Bread...!!!

Took more than 10 min to land. They dont look like they would last that long but believe me they fight really hard including going around my anchor line countless times with dashes that sent my reel screeching. Good Fun....!!

One of the most unexpected catches and the first iv seen..... Glens Stingray on Lure....! Burkley Gulp.

We thought it was a GT. The way it sent his reel screeming..... have a look at the video.

Overall the trip was good fun.

Was the trip worth it.....?

Yes even though we did not get as many fish this time round.

We knew that Darwin has its better days.

It was also an eye opener to a very different type of fishing .

We were again shooting for queenfish but were not lucky.

I somehow find that the queenfish are most productive when the monsoon season and winds are up. Today and the past few days however saw the winds coming in the westerly direction and in relation the queenfish were not in. I might be wrong but this is my observation.

However Glen managed to land this nice barracuda just a few feet from the shore.

Looks like the last week has been a productive one for Queenies. They however seen smaller than usual. Maybe because it too early in the season. Hopefully they get bigger as we go further into the season.

Shooting for Queens Ending up With Baracudas

Since the queen fish season was drawing near, we decided to give our favorite Queenie spot a try to see if they were in. As usually Changi village was the meeting place where we would get our batteries started with a fresh cup of coffee and prata before heading out to catch the first light.

When we got there, we had missed the first light as we had misjudged the sunrise timing. We quicky got the gear st up and started jigging for queenies.

Once again we were dissapointed as there w

ere none around but alot of Todaks hitting my jigs.

However Jeevan got lucky, not with a queenie but with a nice baracuda.

We will definitely be back for more at this wonderfull spot.

Fishing on Philip's new Grady White

Philip gave me a call when i was in London to ask if i was keen to go out fishing on his boat.

Unfortunately this trip was not very productive at at all.

The current was too strong and only Mark manage to land a diamond trevally.

Guess it was to be his since it was his first time fishing. Not too bad for a first fish.

A friend of mine Andrew called me one Monday morning asking me if i was keen to go out fishing on a new Chaparal 29 foot boat. I agreed without hesitation and immediately took leave for Wednesday.

We met at 1 Degree 15 at 8am and set off with the intention to head to Tanah Merah. They had actually wanted to test the range of the boat to see how far it would take them on a full tank of petrol which was about 800 liters.

The ride to changi was smooth with flat water all the way. I had the pleasure of skippering the craft and cruising at about 27 knots with some trials of full speed at about 35 knots was a pleasure. It took us probably about 30 min at that speed to reach which was actually alot faster than i thought.

The first spot was my favourite Queenie spot which left us empty handed so we decided to move. the second spot

along the breakwaters saw alot of Aramugem's being landed. Very disappointng if you as me. I did not fish very much as i was not much of a baiter and only tried jigging for queenies which i did not find any.

Finally we decided to move and head toward Ubin just off the coast of Changi beach which was recommended by a malay fisherman that brought me there. Fortunately during my last trip i marked the spot with my handheld GPS. There we sat for a good 2 hours waiting for a bite. Finally at the turn of the tide we managed to get some nice Finger Mark Snappers.

Guy in the pix is Chinaman Owen who is supposed to be the charter manager for the boat.

First time fisherman with beginners luck i guess.

Tampines Sand Quarry 29 June 08

We actually planed for a trip to Bedok Res at 1600 hrs initially but there was a big dragon boat festival going on and there was too much human activity around.

Seletar Res was the next destination, but a change of plan came about when i suggested checking out the sand quarry.

We stopped by the side of the road to do a quick recce first at about 1645 hrs and found some Thai Workers fishing there. I asked if they had caught anything and they showed me plastic bag with 1 PB and a catfish in it.

I asked if that was all they got the whole day and they showed me about 5-6 P.B and some catfish pierced with a stick over the campfire and it looked like they were in some jungle survival course. Don't understand how they could eat PB's......!!

Anyway it pretty much answered my question....... we had to give this place a go....!

Lady luck was however not on our side.....! Except for one PB chasing my rubber worm. I saw a couple of others in the water as well and sight casted at them hoping they would snap at it. They did take an initial interest at first and chased it a little but then dashed off in the opposite direction.

Notice the weedy banks and submerged trees.... looks like a promising toman fishing ground...! But did not see and typical toman surface ripples nor any hits on the poppers presented.

Oh well guess it was just not our day...!!

Will definitely give this place another go maybe on the quieter side with less human disturbance.

Just one of those days that i needed a quick fix so headed to Bedok reservoir after work, and this is the result after 1/2 hr of casting them rubber worms.

Landed 16 June 2008 at 1903 hrs

Peacock Bass at Bedok Res with fishing buddy Seet. I was actually trying out a highly recommended rubber worm by Keitech. It was proven in the sea with a hit at almost every cast. Mostly groupas though. Had to try its effectiveness in freshwater and here is the results. Peacock Bass hit on the second cast.

These little fellows landed from a friends boat off the airshow grounds breaker. These were taken with the Keitech Rubbers i was recommended and there was almost a hit on every cast.
